Christopher Carini, a dedicated public servant, was elected to represent the 5th District in November 2019. A resident of Seaford since 2005, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to his community through his extensive involvement in local organizations and initiatives.
After a distinguished 22-year career as a Police Officer with the New York City Police Department, MTA Police Department, and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Councilman Carini now applies his innovative thinking to the government. He previously served as an Executive Board Member of the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association Inc., representing 1,800 police officers and contributing to the PBA's Budget, Bylaw, Election, and Legislative committees.
Carini's community engagement spans over a decade, including roles as Vice President of the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners' Association (WSHA) and Director of the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners' Neighborhood Watch Committee. In 2012, he contributed to the WSHA's SuperStorm Sandy forum, facilitating essential connections between residents and support agencies in the wake of the disaster.
As Vice Chairman of Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder's Community Council for the 19th Legislative District, Carini has fostered valuable relationships with the Nassau County Police Department. His regular attendance at Seaford Board of Education meetings and service on the District's Security Guard Advisory and District-Wide Safety Committee showcases his dedication to enhancing school safety.
Under the leadership of Councilman Carini and Supervisor Don Clavin, taxes have been consistently managed, with freezes in 2021 and 2023 and a reduction in 2022. They are committed to maintaining this trend for the 2024 budget, while actively exploring opportunities for further cost-cutting measures.
Carini has worked with the town board to improve services for Hempstead residents and modernize the Town of Hempstead Building Department. Initiatives such as online portals for building permits have streamlined processes, reducing wait times and increasing efficiency.
Additional cost-saving measures include the purchase of used municipal vehicles and securing federal and state grants for projects such as capital improvements, park upgrades, and environmental initiatives. These efforts have led to three credit rating upgrades for the Town of Hempstead, now boasting a prestigious AAA rating.
Councilman Carini remains focused on promoting honest government, fiscal responsibility, and enhancing the quality of life for residents. He is committed to opposing the Governor's plan to strip local zoning, ensuring safe and affordable neighborhoods, and advocating for the repeal of cashless bail. Christopher Carini and his wife Danielle are proud parents of two young children.
